Welcome Race Fans.
The Baypark Speedway Season carry’s on at a staggering pace.
Baypark Cars continue to dominate around the country with 1NZ Mark Osbourne and 81M Dean Waddell leading the points table on the Burger King Pro Dirt Super Saloon Series. The top 10 drivers in the series head south to compete against the top 10 Cars in the sister series the Elf Cup Super Saloon Series. This challenge is scheduled for the 15th March so we have rescheduled out Super Saloon Bay Champs to the 29th March, which coincides with our Fireworks Night! It’ll be an thrilling speedway meet for all.
The always competitive Principals are with us to battle it out for bragging rights in the Annual Principals Race. A number are returning including last years 1st & 2nd place drivers, Nik House from Welcome Bay School and Damien Harris from Mt Primary. There is already some controversy with Damien crying fowl at the rules last year claiming Nik crept forward on a red light to gain the winning advantage.
There are two trophies up for grabs in the Principals Race – 1 for the overall winner plus 1 for the Cluster group or team of Principals based on their School location. Last years cluster group winners were Craig Haggo’s “Te Puke” team.
The Stock Car class is hosting a team’s race against a made up team of fellow Baypark contracted drivers. A number of the made up team have aspirations of being part of the Bulldogs next season, so they will be determined to show all of what they have to offer tonight.
Although not originally on the calendar, Super Saloons are racing along with their less powered cousins the Saloons. The Supers can expect two long distance races with the possibility of the Saloons joining them in their 2nd 20 lap race.
Thanks to “Sunlive” Media who continue to support the Principals along with “Fibre Concepts” - Stock Car Teams, “Farmer Auto Village” – Sprint Cars, “Bay Rigging” – Saloons and “Barclay Engravers” – Super Saloons.
The next event is the “Red Ant Design” Sprint Car Gold Cup and Ramp Demo Derby on the 15th March. Currently we have over 25 entries for the Derby with the list growing daily.
The Pits are open throughout the racing program so take the time to wander through and meet your favourite drivers whilst getting close to the pit action. The other opportunity to meet the drivers is the Stadium Lounge where prize giving takes place from 10.30 pm. You will find the entrance beside the food concessions just before Gate 2 exit. Access to the Pit area is also via the Stadium lounge.
Remember you can tune your mobile phones / personal listening devices to 88.1 FM where you will be able to hear the broadcasted trackside commentary.
